Being a reluctant hero, he admits his preference for adventure over saving the world, and making friends over fighting the Fire Nation. Aang's energetic nature and childish navete render him oblivious to the world around him, as well as the feelings of others. Over the course of the series, though, Aang gradually matures into his role as the Avatar. The blue arrow on his head, hands and feet are to show he has mastered Airbending.
